AGREEMENT REACHED ON THE U.S. 36 CORRIDOR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT

The U.S. 36 Preferred Alternative Committee (PAC), a 21-member group of agency representatives, elected officials and technical staff from the U.S. 36 corridor communities, met regularly from January to July 2008 to discuss the elements to be included in the Preferred Alternative for U.S. 36. and has attained a far-reaching agreement for the corridor.

The ‘Combination Alternative’ is that agreement; a significant milestone reached through collaboration by all parties to develop a solution in response to public comment heard during the US 36 Draft Environmental Impact Statement Public Comment period.

The Combination Alternative provides a multi-modal transportation vision for the future. On July 9, 2008 the members of the U.S. 36 PAC signed the Combined Alternative Agreement to indicate their support for the transportation vision.

The Combined Alternative, as recommended by the U.S. 36 Preferred Alternative Committee, includes both transit and highway improvements that are responsive to the public and provide long-term transportation benefits. It is intended that, pending additional analysis, the Combined Alternative will be identified as the Preferred Alternative in the U.S. 36 Final Environmental Impact Statement.
